Christmas Celebration

On Friday December 17, our students celebrated Christmas with a holiday program and publishing party.

The pupils performed songs, recitations, and a dance, while the publishing party was in the form of a Christmas play written and performed by the children.

Fr. Mesrob Lakissian, pastor, church Board members, the Armenian Relief Society “Mayr”  Chapter, Hamazkayin and Homenetmen the school Board, parents, and friends attended this festive celebration. Dr. Markarian, School Board chairman,  and Fr. Mesrob Lakissian spoke on behalf of the school. Santa made  a special appearance and gave presents to the students. Presents were also given by the  Pastor & Board of St. Illuminator Cathedral, the School Board, and  the ARS “Mayr” chapter.

On Friday, Oct. 29, 2010 school children celebrated the Halloween.

On Friday, Dec. 17, 2010 our school children will have a Christmas party and first publishing party. The publishing party will be in the form a Christmas play written and performed by our Students in grades 1-6.

The party will be from 1:00-3:30 in the school lunchroom, and we encourage you to attend.

 

Feast of the Holy Translators

On Friday, Oct. 22nd, 2010, the pupils of St. Illuminator Day School celebrated the Feast of the Holy Translator's Sourp Sahag Hayrabed, Mesrob Mashdots, and their fellow translators, with a program in the school hall.

The School Principal, Ms. Christine Reiglehoff, welcomed the Board members, parents, and guests. Then she invited the children to start the program under the direction of their Armenian teacher, Zemroukhd Markarian, and Music teacher, Shushan Savzyan, who also played the piano. They sang and recited songs and poems, read about our history which glorifies the invention of the Armenian alphabet and  the translation of the Holy Bible.

The attendees enjoyed seeing the school children present such a meaningful  and beautiful program.

On Wednesday, September 7, 2011, St. Illuminator Armenian Day School started its 35th year of service to Armenian community.  Faculty, clergy and Board members from the school and church welcomed the students and their parents, including Rev. Fr. Mesrob Lakissian, Pastor of St. Illuminator’s Armenian Apostolic Cathedral, Rev. Fr.  Moushegh Der Kaloustian, Setrak Agonian, Vice-Chairman of Board of Trustees of St. Illuminator’s Armenian Apostolic Cathedral and Mardo Anastasian, Chairman of the Board of Directors of St. Illuminator Armenian Day School.

Ms. Christine Reiglehoff, Principal of St. Illuminator Armenian Day School, welcomed the old and new students and their parents.

She thanked the parents for entrusting the teachers with their children’s education. Following Ms. Reiglehoff’s remarks, Mr. Anastasian discussed the importance of Armenian schools for a thriving Armenian community.  Rev. Fr. Lakissian and Rev. Fr. Der Kaloustian delivered a closing prayer and wished the faculty, students and parents much success this school year.

ANEC Seminar

"On Saturday October 1, 2011 five members of St. Illuminator Armenian Day School attended the seminar held by ANEC at the Eastern Prelacy office in New York.

Three teachers namely Zemroukht Markarian,Shushan Sevzyan  and Gayane Gabrielyan in addition to board member Hovhannes Yessaian and ex-teacher Berjouji Yessaian(as observer) were present and took part in the discussion about various subjects concerning the Armenian schools and ANEC's program"

Feast of the Holy Translators

On October 27, 2011, the students of St. Illuminator Day School celebrated one of our most beloved feasts, the Feast of the Holy Translators— St. Mesrob Mashdots,  St. Sahak and their disciples—with a program in the school hall.

Ms. Christine Reiglehoff, Principal, welcomed the parents and guests.  Under the direction of their teachers, Zmroukht Markarian, Shushan Savzyan and Gayane Gabrielyan, the students sang and recited songs and poems about the Armenian alphabet and the translation of the Holy Bible.

Fr. Mesrob Lakissian offered closing remarks, praising the children and the teachers for their hard work and dedication.  The attendees enjoyed a meaningful and beautiful program.

Halloween

On October 31, 2011, the students celebrated Halloween, wearing colorful costumes and trick-or-treating throughout the school.  The day ended with a Halloween party hosted by the PTO in the school hall.  We thank the PTO and Ms. Makrouhi Kalayjian for their generosity.

Year End-Hantes - June 17, 2011

St. Illuminator’s Armenian Day School held its Hantes at the Armenian Center on Friday, June 17, at 7:30 pm. Father Mesrob Lakissian, Pastor St. Illuminator’s Cathedral and Priest Fr. Moushegh Der Kaloustian, School Board Members, ARS Mayr Chapter & Hamazkayin representatives were present.

Christine Reiglehoff the principal delivered welcoming remarks and thanked the dedicated; staff Ms. Zemroukhd Markarian, Shushan Savzyan and Steven Henock for their devotion. School Board Chairman, Mr. Mardo Anastasian, spoke highly about the Armenian school’s role in maintaining and preserving our identity. The program began with the children’s recitations, songs and play.

Upon the conclusion of the program, Fr. Mesrob Lakissian was invited to hand the diplomas to Kindergarten graduates: Arman Gevorgyan, Alex Ovanessian, Anna Papazyan, Ani Papazyan, Marianne Mkrtchian, and 6th grade graduate Kathy Papazyan. Father Mesrob  praised the Board and faculty for their tireless efforts and spoke about the importance of the Armenian school which helped us preserve the Armenian heritage.

The students received gifts from Armenia’s UN Mission, St. Illuminator’s Cathedral, ARS Mayr chapter & Hamazkayin.

Father Moushegh Der Kaloustian invited to give blessings and benediction. The guests, families and friends enjoyed a wonderful and memorable Hantes.

Visit to NY Armenian Nursing Home
On Wednesday, April 13, the students and faculty of St. Illuminator Day School visited residents of the New York Armenian Nursing Home. The children performed songs and recitations.

Fr. Mesrob Lakissian, Pastor, introduced the program and spoke on behalf of the school. It was an enjoyable experience for the residents students and faculty. The school thanks nursing home director, Ms. Aghavni Ellian, and staff for their hospitality.
New Computers Donated
The Armenian Relief Society of NY "Mayr" chapter, donated new computers to St. Illuminator Armenian Day School. The School Board and Faculty express their appreciation to ARS for their continuous support.
Mr. Vartan Matiossian   
On Tuesday, March 15, Mr. Vartan Matiossian of the Educational Department of the Armenian Prelacy, visited St. Illuminators Day School and was greeted by Board chairman Dr. Herand Markarian, and Ms. Christine Reiglehoff, Principal. His aim was to familiarize himself with the school and acquire answers to his department's inquiries. The main topics were how to increase the numbers of students and what programs to use to bring more students to the school. Mr. Matiossian also had a chance to visit each classroom observe a lesson.
Saints Vartanants   
Woodside, NY.- On Friday evening, March 4, students at St. Illuminator Day School celebrated Saints Vartanants Day with a special program which included songs, recitations, and a play. Mrs. Z. Markarian directed students in grades 1-6, and Miss Susan Savzyan directed pupils in N-K.

School Board Chairman, Dr. Herand Markarian, welcomed the attendees, Pastor Fr. Mesrob Lakissian, praised the children for their performance and Archpriest Fr. Moushegh Der Kaloustian conveyed his fatherly, encouraging words. Those present enjoyed a memorable commemoration.

Martin Luther King Jr.

Friday, January 14, 2011, students learned about  Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and The Civil Rights Movement in honor of Dr. King’s birthday.

Teachers Steven Henock and Christine Reiglehoff spoke to the children about Dr. King’s non-violent contributions to Civil Rights. Students also colored pictures of Martin Luther King Jr.
